Wild Coffee Shrub or Bahama Coffee (Psychotria ligustrifolia)

Psychotria ligustrifolia is a native shrub which has become rare in Bermuda. It was formerly found in the understory of upland woodlands, particularly in the Walsingham tract in Hamilton Parish. Although unrelated to commercial coffee, Psychotria ligustrifolia has fruits which resemble coffee beans. In Bermuda, it produces small white flowers in spring and early summer, which become small berries that turn from green to bright red as they ripen.

Wild Coffee Shrub was included in the recovery plan for flowering plants written in 2009, however it is not listed under the Protected Species Act 2003.
